The Bruins and Flyers took the ice for the third period on Saturday knotted at 2-2, following a relatively even first 40 minutes.

Less than five minutes into the frame, Boston had a sudden and jarring 5-2 lead.

Charlie Coyle was the catalyst for a major momentum shift that led to the rapid scoring spree, in which the Bruins scored three times in less than three minutes, and two goals 19 seconds apart. The center scored the game’s tying goal late in the second period, and gave Boston its first lead of the night a minute into the third.

That play got the crowd at the TD Garden on their feet. Johnny Beecher and Jake DeBrusk made sure to keep them there.

A little over two minutes after Coyle broke the tie, Beecher was rewarded for his hard work in front of Philadelphia’s net. He took a stab at a loose puck near the crease and buried it in the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

On the following shift, DeBrusk took a feed across the zone and turned the corner to get behind the Flyers defender in the offensive zone. He got Felix Sandstrom to bite on his initial move, before tucking the puck behind the goaltender and inside the right post.

DeBrusk has been on fire post-trade deadline, a possible symptom of his relief to still be in Boston, and to have the deadline behind him.

The Bruins spent 41 minutes either trailing or even with Philadelphia in what was shaping up to be a nail-biter at the Garden. Thanks to that scoring outburst, the game quickly turned into a near-blowout.

Boston nearly blew that strong lead in nightmare-ish fashion, but came out of the chaotic, seven-goal third period with a 6-5 win.
