Despite facing a tough road as a lower seed, the 1985 Patriots was a clear winner.
The voters have spoken, picking a decisive winner in the bracket of Boston’s best sports uniforms. For all of the success the Patriots have experienced in the last few decades, it turns out the most popular uniform was the classic choice.
The 1985 Patriots, donning the look of old school New England professional football—red jerseys with the iconic “Pat Patriot” helmets—defeated the “Bobby Orr Bruins Era” uniforms in the final to win.
The final stats showed a pronounced advantage for the ’85 uniforms, emerging triumphant with a 57-43 margin of victory.
It was the second closest matchup for the 1985 Patriots, having already overcome the No. 1 overall seed in the bracket, the 2004 Red Sox (representing the classic look of Boston baseball). In that second-round matchup, readers were more split (opting for Pat Patriot over the iconic Red Sox era by a 54-46 percentage).
The most lopsided round for the eventual champion was the opener: 86-percent vs. 14-percent against the royal blue look of the 1996 Patriots.
Despite being given a lower seed (No. 9) and a tougher road, the 1985 Patriots uniform was a clear winner.
Looking across the rest of the results, the closest matchup in the entire bracket was the second-round battle between the 2011 Bruins and the Bobby Orr Era Bruins. Out of 3,566 votes, the earlier “Bobby Orr Era” won with only 16 votes of separation.
