Despite a lackluster freshman season at USC, Bronny James could be a possible draft pick this summer.
The Celtics have been intertwined with LeBron James’ legacy throughout the basketball legend’s Hall-of-Fame career.
On several occasions, the Celtics have stood as a formidable postseason opponent for James — especially during his tenures with the Cavaliers and Heat.
But in a bizarre twist of fate, could the Celtics end up being the team that adds James’ son, Bronny, to their organization during the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft?
ESPN draft experts Jeremy Woo and Jonathan Givony published their latest 2024 NBA mock draft Wednesday morning — with Boston projected to draft Bronny James with the No. 54 overall pick.
The Celtics hold the No. 54 pick after acquiring it in a three-team deal last summer that resulted in Grant Williams getting dealt to the Mavericks.
Bronny James — a 6-foot-4 guard — had an underwhelming freshman season at USC, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists off the bench for the Trojans.
It remains to be seen if James actually has the ceiling to be an everyday contributor at the next level, but his family history will likely prompt one team to use a second-round pick to bring James into the fold.
For months, speculation has surrounded Bronny James and the potential of his father wanting to play on the same team as him at this stage of his career.
James, who has a player option with the Lakers and could opt for free agency this summer, noted earlier this season that he’d want to share the court with his son before he retires.
However, James did stress earlier this month that playing with his son was no longer the same priority to him — at least not enough to potentially prompt him to sign with whatever team drafts Bronny.
As fun as it might be to imagine the Celtics somehow managing to get both LeBron and Bronny James on the same team in 2024-25, just the sight of LeBron sitting court-side at TD Garden to watch his son would be a wild development given the numerous battles he’s had on that same parquet floor.
