Garnett believes there’s “a green buzz saw” that’s cutting everything in half.
Kevin Garnett is confident the Celtics are still the best team in the Eastern Conference heading into the NBA season.
He believes the Knicks are “trying to do something special,” and have the depth to challenge the Celtics to some degree, but there’s just one problem.
“It’s a big ol’ buzz saw right above them, that’s a green buzz saw that’s cutting everything in half,” Garnett said in a “Ticket & The Truth” clip he shared on social media.
Garnett indicated that Jrue Holiday and Derrick White help vault the Celtics over the top, along with the versatility of superstars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
“I’m going to keep it real,” Garnett said. “If you ain’t got no guard play at the front, if you ain’t got a 1-2 that can be two-way, you can’t play with the Cs.”
Paul Pierce said he’s trying to think of a matchup, and what another team would need, to have a legitimate chance against the Celtics. Garnett wasn’t having it.
Garnett replied that, in his eyes, it goes: Celtics, Knicks, 76ers. Pierce asked Garnett if the 76ers match up with the Celtics with Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George.
“I think Philly’s effort, and those three guys, because Maxey can get you 50, Embiid can — he’s an MVP — and then you got Paul George, who’s premier,” Garnett said. “That’s going to get you something.”
But Garnett doesn’t think the Knicks or Sixers did enough to leapfrog Boston. He has Orlando, Cleveland, and Miami in the four, five, and six spots, with everyone looking up at the defending champs.
“They set the precedent in the East, in the league,” Garnett said.
