“In addition to being about the best a broadcaster can be, you’re about as great a person as anyone could be.”
When it comes to respect and admiration from fellow titans in the sports broadcasting industry, one thing about Mike Gorman is abundantly clear: He’s “Got it!”
Kevin Harlan, Ian Eagle, and Mike Breen honored Gorman in a tribute video the Celtics posted Sunday prior to Gorman’s final regular-season game.
“It is an honor to pay tribute to one of the greatest voices pro basketball has ever known,” Harlan said, alongside Reggie Miller. “And in what better market, and part of the country, than in Boston and New England, to honor the great Mike Gorman?”
Harlan said he’s always admired Gorman’s delivery, cadence, perspective, and more. He said it made for an “absolutely incredible listen.” Miller chimed in: “We love you, Mike!”
Eagle noted that Gorman has “set the standard” in the NBA for broadcasting. He said he’s “stolen” from Gorman over the years and that everyone in the league still wants to be just like him.
“In addition to being about the best a broadcaster can be, you’re about as great a person as anyone could be,” Eagle said.
Breen then congratulated Gorman on one of the “most remarkable careers” in the industry. He thanked him for serving as a role model for him and for so many others.
“Not just a role model because of your skill and talent as a play-by-play man, but as who you are as a man,” Breen said. “One of the true blessings in my life has been to be able to tell people that Mike Gorman is my friend.”
